It depends on the singer/band. English would be Johnny Massacare for singer and 3 Doors Down. Japan would be Miku Hatsune and The Boom Boom Satilites

It depends on my mood... Sometimes I feel kinda sad-ish and like American music, sometimes I feel kawaii and LOVES me some J-pop.

English music, without a doubt. It isn't like "I can't understand this" as much as "I really hate how uptempo and poppy this is". Even those "heavy metal" Final Fantasy songs that they've been using the past few years are really poppy... and terrible.

I hope there is one or two Japanese bands out there that I'll like, but I've failed so far. Is there a Decemberists-type band over there? I'd be interested in that.

Depends, I find pop music much easier to listen to when I don't understand the words. As I'm studying Japanese though, the appeal much change.

Japanese of course, cause Japanese people usually make song for anime, besides.. their song are really meaningful. They should be praised for their diligence.
