NYAF! The New York Anime Festival, takes place in the Jacob K. Javits center in New York this September!! (September 25-27, 2009) Though it's still pretty far off and since I have nothing better to do, why not talk about the future event?
NYAF holds numerous panels, boasts a huge dealers room, and best of all the World Cosplay Summit, where winners get sent off to Japan to see just how good they can measure up against some real hardcore otaku fans.
Okay thats enough about NYAF (no thats not enough, there is certainly much more to type up about it but I am fairly lazy for being a bored person) Let's hear some opinions, facts, cheers, and planned cosplays from you ^^

Okay, so I read the latest e-mail that was sent out to all 0P members. I wanted to know if any of us had to get the NYAF pass through 0P in order to get the advertising freebies. I'd still want them, but I really don't think I'm in a position to shell out the 3-day pass just for one day of attendance. I just can't justify it considering transportation, food, and maybe one or two purchases, and I should buy my ticket soon. Also, has 0P already been registered as a group for a group discount? Forgive me if I'm a bit paranoid, but I just want to make sure I have all the facts I need before making a move. 11 months, 2 weeks ago
comments
As it stands now, the freebies come with registering through OP. They WILL be available to everyone, but I have no details on a shirt cost or anything. More details soon. Once I have a solid count on #'s, we will register as being a group. -

ALSO, if anyone is not planning on going more than one of the days, it makes sense to just buy the ticket on your own, rather than going for a weekend pass and wasting 15-20 bucks. -

I'm sure we can swing something where people can just get the swag separately -

I now have a friend coming along with me for sure on Saturday. I may cosplay as Setsuna F. Seiei again, but it depends on how she feels about following me around. Considering doing a casual version somehow as well since she could TOTALLY be Marina Ismali. I'd be more inclined if I knew she or the cosplay crew from ANEXT would be. In any case, 0taku Pride meet up! We should like all have lunch together or something, but we need a meeting place. Someone who is familiar with the con space should suggest a locale. 1 year ago

well, im not sure whether or not they are holding the convention on the lower level this year... but as you enter through the main etrance you head to the right and go down a flight of stairs. there is a newspaper booth and such. meet there? @ ?time -

That sounds like it could work. Somehow this place sounds familiar...Anyway, it's the end of the 2nd week in August. I'm kind of wondering where we all stand in this get-together. FoxKaiya & False_Messiah seem prepped.. -

Can't wait, im sure this will be constantly updated as to who is up to what and where at the convention, we'll plan it out as we go along. I don't think it's that big of a deal as far as finding a place to meet. -

There will be a cosplay picnic the week before Nyaf, I believe on a saturday, in the central park ramble... just in case you wanted to know ^^ 1 year ago

That would be pretty nice to go to, but there's no way I could make it without a greater incentive. -

Like a cosplay contest picnic where the grand prize is a whole lotta money and/or stuff you would find at a vendors booth that would normally be way overpriced but is now free because your costume is just that awesome. -

I'm buying the tickets in August, and preparing a infamous "Free Hugs" sign (what's better than getting hugged by some cute cosplayer chicks) And luckly, it's a 15 minuet train ride for me XD 1 year ago
comments
Very cool! I heard you might have some competition from all the other cute cosplayer chicks, so make sure that sign is totally decked out! -

My best friend hugged someone holding a, "free hugs" sign once. Also, I went as link to a con and had a chance to ride yoshi but I chickened out at the last minute. -

Last year at Icon this kid came up to me and was like "ill give you a hug if you give me a dollar." Like, wtf? I'm not paying for my hugs at a con! Really...I gave him the dollar though XD -

I walked around the con last year with free hugs written on my face. and It work to a certain extent, but I think a free Hugs Shirt will work better. ;-) -

there have been so many people wearing V for vendetta masks at icon the past few years. Mostly at 27, but this past year as well. I'm game for the group thing if I can get my act together in time to actually go. -

This is the first and only convention I've gone to. Can't wait to this year's. Last time, I was on crutches and attempted to dress up as the fat detective from detetive conan but was repeatedly mistaken for indiana jones. 1 year ago

@sinisterspades I don't think a wig'll work. My hair is king of....big. I'll probably just end up styling my own hair. I think I've solved my jacket problem, but thanks for the info! 1 year ago

@Kayla I actually bought my mustang outfit from hellocosplay.com cause I was lazy. I would not suggest buying a mustang costume there... My costume came devoid of the credentials and gloves that Mustang so very much needs on his outfit... and now I am both without them... and I have an ill fitting pair of pants which I now have to tailor... -facepalm- shoulda bought the one I saw on ebay...damn... ah well As to the hair fer Hawkeye, seeing as I do not know what type of hair you have in the present, I suppose I'd have to say getting a simple blonde wig at cosworx.com (very good wig site, though the selection is rather limited...) and styling it would be your best bet. If that does not work out fer you then you could always search fer the specific wig itself. I'm sure someone on cosplay.com might be willing to sell one. There are a good selection of wigs up fer the taking there but I've never bought one there myself cause I have...issues... over things that arent...fresh from the store... or made myself. ^^ I hope my info helps you in at least some tiny way. 1 year ago

@sinisterspades: where did you get the military jacket for mustang? or did you make it? I'v ebeen consedering throwing together a hawkeye costume, but it's likely to fail, even if I do find a jacket. The hair will present a definite problem... 1 year ago
