I found miyazaki's Nausicaa to be the most meaninful and is my favorite. I am still confused as to the whole first Studio Ghibli film issue.

For me my original favorite will be Akira even though I'm still not quite sure what the hell it was about...

Crazy about Spirited Away and Millenium Actress.

Does Heavy Metal count? Just kiddin'.

I just watched Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind over the weekend of NYAF, and I have to say it was very good. Not really what I expected, but it was good.

Not a big fan of Miyazaki.

The nomination of UY Movie 2 was a good one.

Patlabor 2 is also excellent.

But the greatest anime movie ever was GAINAX's stunning Wings of Honneamise.

I'm a big fan of Yoshiura Yasuhiro. He mostly releases OVAs, but his work is so exceptional that I feel he deserves to be mentioned here. I hope everyone is able to watch his productions which include Time of Eve, Aquatic Language, and Pale Cacoon. You need to be prepared for these because they are thought-provoking and definitely not something that you could watch passively.

It is most defiantly a 4 way tie between Princess Mononoke, Howls Moving Castle, Spirited Away, and My Neighbor Tottoro.

....I didn't like Ponyo.

All of Miyazaki's other films were great. Ponyo was way too childish for my tastes and I'm sure many females will take pleasure in disagreeing with me.

Best part was when she yelled HAM at the top of her lungs. How pathetic.

HA! I saw Ponyo yesterday and it was great! The mother in the movie drives nearly as insanely as my mom does!

Apart from Myiazaki's movies and 5 cm per second (which are already mentioned ...) I really love Ghost in the Shell.

Also it's fun to spot references to this movie in other movies.

Myiazaki's coming out with a new movie called "ponyo" that I'm really excited to see! It's coming out this friday, the 14th, and I'm really excited but I think I'll be at Indian Island already D:

My favorite would have to be Sword of the Stranger. The last few fight scenes of that movie were awesome. The fight scenes are also a bit on the brutal side.

5 Centimeters Per Second.

I'm a big fan of surreal, emotionally impressionable work, and Makoto Shinkai makes it happen in this film. He has been hailed as "the next Miyazaki," but he's doing something much different than Miyazaki would, while similarly pushing the envelope. Amazing animation, simple characters groping for something beyond themselves, and a story that almost anyone can comprehend. He's very much a genius storyteller for me, using visuals and narration to cultivate an amazing atmosphere. And yes, I cried the first time I saw it all the way through. I own all three of his works on DVD. This film is definitely worth looking into.
