For any of you who missed the initial coverage of the earthquake in Sendai, Japan (and the Fukushima reactor) here's a summary with a dozen links to in-depth news sources and charities.
In retrospect, certain things came became important that were just footnotes at the time. The Fukushima reactors, for instance, were not a big deal initially. While they did leak some radiation early on, early reports implied that the joint SDF-US team had the situation under control. Only later did it become apparent that they did not.
