So for those who are web geeks like me, you've likely heard of the next generation of web markup language that is set to be released. HTML5 brings many large advents with the most notable being embeded video using "<video>" tags without the need of Flash. CSS3 accompanies HTML5 with many cool code features. The one I'm looking forward to the most is being able to generate rounded corners. It's going to be pretty sweet all around.
However, a thought hit me: Once HTML5 catches on, could you imagine an internet where people have abandoned animated GIFs for video embeds that can be adjusted to almost any dimension size? I mean really...very few people are willing to learn Flash/ActionScript, but EVERYONE knows how to make a video. I mentioned this to a friend today and he looked at me in horror. Mind you, this is someone who blocks Flash embeds on his browser.
So what are your thoughts about the changes coming to the internet in web markup?

I dunno man... I think it'll get worse before it gets better but lots of cool stuff will get made in the meanwhile because of it. All in all I'm looking forward to it regardless of horror 3 years, 9 months ago

i love new standards. however, each browser has different ways of parsing the standards. If they can get the browsers to read the standards properly, the standards like css3 and html5 will be much better. 3 years, 8 months ago

Agreed, but is a standard really a standard if no one is following it? And why should some group of people locked away in a room decide what the standard is going to be? We need a group that represents all parts of the whole to reach a decision. -

@Tom Wasn't a "group locked in a room" how HTML was upped to XHTML & CSS standards upped to 2.1? Just like XHTML, the web developing community just needs some years to grow into it with solid representations that work. -

I hope you're right. My mind is tainted with microsofts past decisions to ignore stadards -

Maybe google will make a prolific enough base of software using html5 that it can just be used as an example implementation and things will solidify on the broswer side that way - I can hope can't I? -

Once Google OS comes out, only businesses will use windows, IE will become obsolete since Chrome will be packaged with Google OS and users will use that. Then google will buy Firefox and implement all their customizability + addons. -

standards are a good thing. they make confomity when it comes to the net. Standards make it easy for different venders to interoperate with each other. But when the standards are not being implemented properly then it can make a problem.

Case in point if I were to write a css style sheet for a theme, can be displayed in ie 5,6,7,8, firefox, opera and other browsers, Now some can be working better than others but still need to make sure everyone is happy. ;-) -
